Where can I get my site hosted for free?

Hey, as you can tell by the title, this article is going to be on free web hosts. Many people are either too young to have a credit card, or are a little low in money. So, these people need to find a place where they can host there website, and either sell or giveaway there games.

We will start by talking about a few website hosts. These people will host just about anything for your website. As long as it is legal, of course.
ej.am
These guys are a bit of a post to host, or so to speak. They require 10 forum posts, but then you just have to log in once every two weeks. They give you free Cpanel hosting, which is truly great!~

Purge Hosting
Again, free Cpanel hosting. Just, these guys don't require forum posts ;)

Those are the two free hosts I have used and grown to trust. They both give you subdomains, too.
Now, I will share with you some great blog hosters:
Blogspot
They are very trusty, and your site gets indexed by search engines fast. And, I'm not just saying that because they host us. Trust me, these guys are great. However, they don't allow you to track how many search engine spiders are running around your site. They also allow you to just plug in your adsense, which is really great, because the kind, supporting people are willing to click the ads and help your site run.

Wordpress
Wordpress.com will host you a free wordpress blog, which is rather nifty. I'm not sure if it is better than blogspot, but I've heard some really great things about them!~ Definately worth a try.

The next couple will host you some really nice forums:
Makeforum
This site will host you a free PHPBB2, with unlimited bandwidth and Space. As unbelievable as it is, these guys make enough of a profit to continually expand there data center. I say give them a try, as I used to use them.

IndieGaming
Indiegaming is offering a free forum just for your project. We want to host the games that show potential, to help out the Indie Game design world. So, drop on by, register, chat a little, and post in the applications forum!~

Super Crazy Guitarman

Super Crazy Guitarman
Ya, this is basically your average FFR/Guitar Hero/DDR clone. However, it has a very welly chosen 18 songs, and it is great.
It's songs rock, it's graphics rock, and it's gameplay is great. A definate 8/10 Game, for lack of originality.
I say give it a play.

Gold miner

Gold miner seems to be a really great game. I made it pretty far, thanks to doing really well on the first level. I build up a stockpile of money and dynamite early, so it helped me out later on. The only thing this game can improve on is sound, which needs a major makeover. Overall, it is a great game!~
8/10.

Avoiding infringing on Trademarks when purchasing a Domain

Okay, you have a great idea for a website. Something hot, new, sticking with the market. Now you need to buy a domain name. However, if you wish to avoid being up to your knee's in some pretty hot water, you might want to know some things first.

Purchasing a domain name is not Rocket Science. However, it does take some thinking. You want something short, Easy to pronounce, and easy to memorize. That way it gets spread across the market quickly. Short, to easy it on your users. Easy to pronounce, so it will spread by word of mouth. Easy to Memorize, so people won't forget about your site. You will also want your main keywords to be in your domain name, so you can optimize your site for search engines. However, in the midst of all this, be careful not to step on anyones toes. They may sue you know!~

In fact, awhile back, the two WWF's where having a fight over the name. The World Wrestling Federation, and the World Wildlife Foundation. You see, the Wrestlers used the domain name wwf.com for there services. But, the Wildlife people had the initials trademarked long before the wrestler's did. So, the Wrestler's ended up being forced into changing there name to the WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment, which obviously took a lot of money. The same thing is happening today, between Cisco and Apple. On May 20, 1996, Cisco used the idea of iPhone. Then, when Apple decided to use it to keep up with there string of iProducts, Cisco got angry. It is an ongoing, unresolved battle between the two right now. Whoever loses is gonna end up losing A LOT of money.

Now, don't let that scare you off of getting your domain name. Your idea is great!~ Why waste it? So, I should tell you that a trademark is a name advertising a certain Service or Product. A conflict occurs when one trademark is pretty close to another trademark, and one will end up confusing anothers customers. Whoever commercializes the trademark first are the ones who get protection. So, the poor sucker who ends up using the idea later on is forced into changing there products name, or ceasing it's production. Obviously very money and time-consuming. The loser may also have to pay damages, but usually only if they used the idea for malicous purposes.

Now, you may be asking, "What is the best way to avoid infringing on another's trademark?" Well, that's simple. Consult a Trademark Lawyer before you put too much money into your domain. That way, you won't have a conflict. Or, if you are too cheap and lazy to do that, Google up the name!~ If Apple googled up iPhone, they would know that it is used. If the World Wrestling Entertainment had googled up wwf, they would know it's taken!~ So, Google will save you.

Game Mechanics Contest

This contest is sponsored 50/50 by Me and BioticAmperage from indiegaming.org.

Intro
A long time ago, a game called Platformer was released. This was a revolutionary, as it was the beginning in a long string of Platform games. If it wasn't for this game, the concept of Mario would not have been created.
Now, it seems like all the original game idea's have been sucked up by the corporations, leaving no room for Indie game developers to design something new.
However, it has been said by many people, including myself, that there will always be something Unique out there. Thus, I made this contest. It is designed to be able to be entered by game designers and game players.

Task
Your task is to come up with some new, revolutionary idea that can be implemented into a game. Whether it is an entirely new battle system, a new way of movement, or an entirely new game type!~ You do not have to turn it into a game. It is not rocket science. All you have to do is make the idea.
If it is hard to explain, make a chart or some picture of it!~

Judging
You will be judged on:
How Unique it is
How fun it would be
How well it is explained
If it is used already

You will not be judged on:
How hard it is to make
Having images (Unless it is necessary for explaining.)
If you make games or play them

Prizes
First place: Two months VIP membership or A custom, white, Indiegaming T-shirt.
Second Place: Whatever first place doesn't choose
Third Place: 2000 Credits on the indiegaming board.
